Regional Data Service

Infometrics’ Regional Data Service is an online database of economic, labour market, property market, business and demographic indicators for all regions and territorial authorities in New Zealand. Infometrics has drawn together numerous sources of regional information into a single database, including our own measures of regional GDP and employment. The Regional Data Service will reduce the time you spend gathering data and give you more time to consider what the data means for your region.

At the core of the Regional Data Service are Infometrics' measures of employment and GDP. Our Regional Industry Employment Model provides a quarterly measure of employment by industry in each territorial authority and region. The model draws on the strengths of all the major data sources including Business Demography, LEED, Quarterly Employment Survey and the Population Census. Our method to estimate regional GDP is the most rigorous in the market and draws on our Regional Industry Employment Model, as well as numerous other sources. Estimates are updated each quarter following the release of national employment and GDP statistics by Statistics New Zealand.

Regional Economic Profile

Infometrics’ Regional Economic Profile is an innovative tool that provides an in-depth description of your region or district’s economic profile and performance over the past year and previous years. Infometrics has created a Regional Economic Profile for every territorial authority and region in New Zealand. Each Profile consists of an MS Excel spreadsheet and a linked MS Word report putting a wealth of information at your fingertips. By combining robust data with a high level of automation, this product is a cost effective and straightforward solution when you need regional information. Access to the Regional Economic Profile will free your analysts from the time-consuming task of assembling data and give them more time to focus on strategic issues.

This product can also be customised to be more relevant to your needs. You will be able to define up to five industry clusters (eg marine engineering, sheep and beef farming, dairy), and the Regional Economic Profile will automatically generate a range of growth indicators and associated analysis and text for the clusters.

Optional chapters can be added to the Profile. The Workforce add-on describes the demand for occupations and qualifications over the past year and previous years. It will be of interest to those concerned with education and workforce planning. The Regional Comparison add-on examines how your district or region compares with five comparator districts or regions which you identify.
