Ben Brodie

Senior Econometrician

Ben Brodie is a Senior Econometrician at Infometrics, where he applies expertise in modelling, time-series analysis, and quantitative methods to deliver evidence-based insights.

Ben has experience in economic analysis across government agencies, most recently at the New Zealand Treasury where he delivered statistical analysis that informed government policy decisions. His work included producing child poverty projections using microsimulation, time-series analysis on tax revenue forecasts, and modelling the impacts of tax and welfare reforms to shape policy advice for the NZ Budgets. Ben has presented his work at the New Zealand Association of Economists conferences.

Before Treasury, Ben worked in the Economic Methodology Team at Stats NZ, supporting key outputs like the Quarterly Employment Survey and modelling COVID-19 impacts on GDP components. He has also developed predictive models for agricultural forecasting as a Data Analyst at Iris Data Science.

Ben holds a Master's in Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Statistics from the University of Otago. His master's thesis explored unexplained variability in house prices using machine learning techniques. His technical toolkit includes time-series analysis, microsimulation modelling, and advanced statistical programming.

Originally from Napier and now based in Wellington, Ben spends his weekends mountain biking, exploring Wellington's coastlines, and diving.
