A day in the life of an economic software developer – Robin Arulanantham

Infometrics welcomes a new member to our dynamic IT Team. Robin has recently relocated from Dunedin, where he completed his studies in Information Technology.

He joined us during lockdown, and rose to the challenge of working within the IT Team and the broader team of Economists without having had a face-to-face meeting with most of us.

Robin is now settled in our Wellington office, and we chat to him about what a typical day is like for him.

Bio – Robin Arulanantham

Studied at: Otago Polytechnic
Resides in: Wellington

Jacqui: Can you describe a typical day at work?

Robin: My typical day involves writing code to develop new features, fixing existing issues and working towards new IT infrastructure development. As a part of the job, I always learn a few new things (technical aspects) which I weave into my code.

Jacqui: What is the nature of your work at Infometrics and how do clients benefit from what you do?

Robin: My work involves creating software artefacts (i.e. products). These are used by clients on a day-to-day basis to achieve their business goals.

Jacqui: What are you currently working on?

Robin: I am currently working on the redevelopment work of Infometrics software products, using different programming languages. This redevelopment will provide a flexible framework that integrates several existing products and will enable richer user experience for the clients.

Jacqui: What advice would you give a younger version of yourself?

Robin: Learn as much as you can (more broadly). Actively seek growth opportunities.

Jacqui: What do you enjoy doing when not at work?

Robin: I enjoy developing software projects – either fun or serious ones.  When I’m away from my computer I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking and getting outdoors to walk or run.

Jacqui: What is an intriguing fact about you?

Robin: I speak three human languages and know about 10 computer languages and would love to learn more.

Jacqui: Thank you for taking the time to chat to us Robin.  We look forward to seeing the innovative solutions you create for our clients.
