Tertiary education insights
Are your courses and qualifications aligned with the needs of businesses in your region?

Infometrics economic insights can assist higher education stakeholders to effectively tailor their academic programs to contribute to regional economic development by producing a skilled workforce that meets labor market demands. This alignment is crucial for maintaining long-term sustainability and safeguard against skill shortages or oversupply in certain sectors.

What economic contribution do you make to your region?

Infometrics Economic Impact Assessment Tool can estimate the economic contribution your organisation makes to your regional economy through your operational expenditure on local suppliers, and through the household spending of your staff and students. We express your economic contribution in terms of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the number of jobs that are sustained. We can also specify which industries benefit most from your economic contribution. If you operate across multiple campuses in multiple regions, we can carry out a national economic contribution analysis and an analysis for each region.

We can also perform similar analyses on major events such as graduation ceremonies and conferences, as well major construction projects such as new student accommodation.

If you have an in-house economic impact assessment tool, we offer independent, expert peer review of your tool.

What broader economic and social contributions do you make to your region?

Combining your unique qualification delivery profile with available literature on the broader social and economic benefits of local tertiary education providers, we can examine your contribution to such things as increasing the retention of young people in your region, lowering youth inactivity, raising workforce skill levels and earnings, meeting local skill needs, reducing the severity and prevalence of skill shortages and raising firm productivity.

What economic contribution do your graduates make to your region?

We can combine data on graduate earnings, and data you have on graduate retention within your region, with our own regional GDP estimates to estimate the economic contribution of your graduates to your local economy.

How many young people are not in education, employment, or training (NEET) in your region?

Infometrics estimates NEET rates for Regional Council areas and Territorial Authorities across New Zealand.
